About This Blog...

Steve began working with the Pitman church in August, 2007. He has brought a wealth of ministry experience to us: children's, youth, and adult ministries, Children's Home work, and teaching experience from the pre-school to university levels.

Steve and his twelve (yes, twelve!) siblings were raised by parents who worked in Christian Children's Homes for over 35 years. Steve received his B.A. and M.A. in Education from Harding (1974, 1975). Later, Steve completed a master's equivalent and his PhD in Human Performance at Indiana University (IU). Steve has thirteen years of teaching experience at the college level for IU and York College, in York, NE. Steve's childhood and ministry experiences impressed on him that many families are in need of "wounded healing." So, in 1992, Steve obtained a Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Abilene Christian University in Abilene, TX.

Steve and Patti Klein Sikes have been married for 39 years (December 30) and have four children and 3 grandchildren.

CHOOSE COURAGE!
March 23, 2012

CHOICE: Where would we be without it?  Perhaps in a garden somewhere near the Persian Gulf?!

It is a fact that choice remains one of the greatest consequential gifts ever given to mankind.  We make thousands of choices daily, among which include reading the rest of this article!

Proverbs 22:1 “If you must choose, take a good name rather than great riches; for to be held in loving esteem is better than silver and gold.”

Proverbs 22:6 “Teach a child to choose the right path, and when he is older he will remain upon it.”

CHOICE:  A good name, a right path or … a life of bitter fruit and suffering of terrors for NOT choosing the Lord (wisdom)!

Proverbs 1:29-31 "For you closed your eyes to the facts and did not choose to reverence and trust the Lord, and you turned your back on me, spurning my advice.  That is why you must eat the bitter fruit of having your own way and experience the full terrors of the pathway you have chosen."

After much prayer, our church family has made some pretty big choices lately:

  • We’ve CHOSEN two additional men, Mike Broyles and Dave Perine, to shepherd us!
  • We’ve CHOSEN to initiate the preparation phase for the selection of a third minister on staff!
  • We’ve CHOSEN to focus on courageous leadership development in our marriages and families!

CHOICE:  What decisions have you made lately that will have lasting effects on your future?  Believe it or not, COURAGE IS A CHOICE!  After listening to Moses and God and God’s people, Joshua chose to be strong and courageous!  Because of that choice, Joshua later made the following choice:

Joshua 24:15 “And if it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve… but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."

Thanks for choosing to read this blog article!  Now, go and CHOOSE COURAGE!

God is good!

Mr. Steve
